not just travel

LEARN, PARTICIPATE, MEET PEOPLE FROM NEAR AND FAR.

  • THEMED JOURNEYS.

Experience a travel program themed around winemaking, biking, gardening, cooking, hiking, agriculture and more.

  • Book Club.

If you enjoy reading and meeting Friendship Force members from all over the world, this is for you. Let’s travel places by reading together and talking about it! Drama, thriller, history, travel, poetry, memoir, biography, classic or love story… We choose a new title and meet virtually every six weeks to chat about our reading experience.

We meet on Zoom every six weeks and every meeting is different! We talk about the author and our reading impressions for about an hour. Sometimes there are specific questions we circulate before the meeting by email, and further questions and talking points turn up naturally during our conversation. It is such a joy to share the reading experience with members from all over the world and to hear a variety of interpretations. We sometimes break out into smaller groups depending on the number of meeting participants. Come join us!

  • Recipes From Near and far.

Friendship Force’s “Taste Of…” Recipe Series is designed to bring the world’s cultures into your homes through traditional recipes and fun facts. Past recipes have included Colcannon from Ireland, Alinazik Kebab from Turkey and Malva Pudding from South Africa.

  • language learning.

Our mission is to promote global understanding across the barriers that separate people and the focus of our language lessons is to help you break the language barrier. Through Friendship Force experiences, both virtually and in person, we explore new countries and cultures by sharing our homes, meals, conversation, and everyday life. Being able to communicate conversationally is a great way to reach a new level of understanding. The language learning aims to break the language barrier on future journeys, feel at ease when talking about your culture and everyday life, get qualified instruction from a professional language teacher, practice with Friendship Force members who are native speakers of a language and meet other Friendship Force members online to learn together. Currently, lessons in English and Spanish are being offered.

  • OPEN WORLD LEADERSHIP PROGRAM.

The Open World Leadership Program is a grant-funded exchange and partnership program designed to enhance understanding and cooperation between Congress, American communities and global leaders.

  • WORLD AND REGIONAL CONFERENCES.

Friendship Force World Conferences usually take place every two years. The conferences bring members together from near and far, and include regional activities, fun excursions and guest speakers. This year's World Conference took place in beautiful Dubrovnik, Croatia. Conference attendees often partake in pre-conference or post-conference tours that are arranged by Friendship Force.

Regional Conferences are periodically held in regions throughout the world. A 2024 North American Regional Conference is currently in the planning stages.

  • special journeys and activities.

Special journeys include cruises, festivals and Friendship Force international-organized tours to a special destination. Trips designed for youth, students and educators as well as humanitarian and environmental volunteer programs are offered.

  • individual journeys.

Friendship Force Individual Journeys offer opportunities for members to host and travel in addition to the Chapter-to-Chapter and Special Journeys.

  • hiking, biking, and outdoors interest group.

This group is for members worldwide to share experience, memories, tips and tricks around hiking, biking or other sports activities in all corners of the world. The idea is to have a regular exchange via virtual Zoom calls. If you love the outdoors and sports, please join and get to know other members with the same interests!

  • PHOTOGRAPHY INTEREST GROUP.

If you want to learn how to take better photographs or share your existing skills with other FFI members then this group is for you. The moderator has created a photography course using a series of modules that will deliver a step by step understanding how cameras work and how we can use them creatively. The modules cover topics such as: exposure, focal length, shutter/aperture/ISO, composition, depth of field, camera modes, etc. Each module has an accompanying illustrated PDF document. Meetings will be conducted via Zoom. There will be challenges and ideas to experiment with between meetings and the sharing and discussion of images with helpful hints on how to make them better.
